Canada Road Trip: Saskatoon SK, Prince Albert National Park, Medicine Hat AB

Day 7 and 8, 636 miles

To be honest, yesterday was a really rough day, emotionally. So I don’t have too many words today.

Instead I’ll transcribe this poem that I keep thinking about, if you really want to feel it too, I recommend reading it TWICE and SLOWLY.

GUEST HOUSE ~ RUMI

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

View from Height of Land inside Prince Albert National Park. It was lovely to see some hills and be in trees.

The view tower, the stands of quaking aspen are just so beautiful. Huge white trunks.

Quaking aspen just beginning to leaf out in Prince Albert National Park.

Found a great yarn shop in Saskatoon, my hands have needed a small project. Bought a two skein bandana pattern and yarn to go with.

Namekus Lake where I camped for the night. It was windy.

my campsite for the night, the setting sun was lovely. There are wild fires around saskatchewan, so there was a burn ban in effect. smoke rolled in just as I was going to bed, it became very hazy.

The back of the bronco is so comfy. My little rocket stove is not wind resistant at all, so I find whipping up a cup of coffee here is the best approach. Damn good coffee if I do say so my damn self.

HUGE power lines leading me into Alberta.

The reason for the huge power lines, the Hilda wind farm. Each blade is 71meters long. (250feet)

It’s been interesting to go from farming, to mining (potash), to crude oil, to wind farm, to cattle ranches across southern saskachewanan and into Alberta.

Lots of antelope bedded down in this area, so get out of the driving wind and rain. They were clustered in groups in the gulleys next to the road and in the fields, I could snap a photo of a male, the curly horns are so cool.

The golden prairie land is just so stark and beautiful.

I’m heading over the rockies today and will try to reach Revelstoke BC. Bye for now. ~ Deb
